Edinburgh, the city capital of Scotland sits on so many things – history, culture, and volcanoes. High-speed trains along the east coast of Britain connect Edinburgh. • Proceed to the Royal Museum of Scotland. This was built in 1861 based on an Italian palace. This museum houses classic Greek sculptures, North American totem poles, the Bute Mazer, and so many prized possessions of Mary Queen of Scots.
• Check out the Edinburgh Tattoo. Started in 1950, this is an annual event that attracts about 200,000 travelers year-on-year.

Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city. Second to Glasgow, Edinburgh is a large city. About a million visitors go to Edinburgh every year and that makes it the next most visited tourist spot after London. Getting around this city isn’t really much of a hurdle. In fact, you need not hire a car for personal use while traveling in Edinburgh. This city is a major hub for public transportation. The most commonly used are the buses. The bus systems are so extensive that you can go to any place in the city through a bus.
There are two major divisions in the city – Old Town and New Town. In the Old Town area are the medieval and Reformation-age buildings that have been well preserved. Places to go to in the Old Town include the St Giles Cathedral, Law of Courts, Royal Museum of Scotland, Surgeon’s Hall, and the McEwan Hall.
New Town came to be during the 18th century, when a design competition was held as an attempt to change Old Town. Sites to see include Charlotte Square, which is considered one of the finest Georgian squares ever made.
